VICTORIA
PARK’S HISTORY AND YOUR HELP
There has been a lot said about the founding of the Victoria Park
neighborhood in the last 20 years. People have talked about original homes
built in the mid 1920’s; land platted by Albert Kuhn of Washington, D.C.;
Victoria Courts created by Ralph Horton; The Victoria Highlands
represented by Rivermont Realty.
What we can tell you for a fact is that Alfred G. Kuhn, whose daughter was
named Victoria, was responsible for the founding of our neighborhood. He
recorded in the public records the first dedication of land on July 11,
1925. Kuhn was responsible for the development and sale of hundreds of
lots including some now considered part of Las Olas Isles. Kuhn put lots
up for sale for as low as $5,100; a tract of land along the neighborhood’s
eastern edge was listed for as much as $125,000.
There is a tremendous amount to learn about the roots of our community,
whether the historical nugget goes back nearly 85 y ear or just back 30
years. We are looking for the stories our neighborhood can tell.
If you lived in Victoria Park before 1975 or have photos of Victoria Park
from before 1975 or know of someone who lived or worked in Victoria Park
before 1975 who is willing to share their story about the neighborhood,
please let us know. Just send us an e-mail at
VPStories@aol.com.
The 85th anniversary Victoria Park project begins with this story and
request. We hope that YOU will help us add to the factual history of our
great neighborhood.
